Intellectual Property

The IP practice at GVTH has, consistently, been rated amongst Malta’s strongest. The team works on all matters of IP related work, which includes the creation, registration and protection of trademarks, designs and patents, and the prosecution of actions for infringements, as well as issues relating to copyright, with a focus on the film industry, licensing and franchising. The firm also advises on IP tax planning, and is heavily involved in anti-counterfeiting measures, particularly following Malta’s accession to the EU and its implementation of the relative legislation providing brand owners the right to seize suspect counterfeit goods in transit. Indeed the firm acts for a number of major international brand owners and is, on a continuous basis involved in seizures of goods being transshipped through Malta.
