Practice Area: Property and Construction Law, Succession Law, Press Law, Aviation Law, Litigation. Called to the Bar in 1969, Joe Zammit Maempel was formerly a founding partner of Grech & Associates. He is one of Malta's most senior litigation lawyers, appearing primarily before the Appeal Courts. His practice focuses principally on Civil Law matters, particularly real estate and succession, although he also advises on corporate financial issues. In more recent years he has earned an enviable reputation as Malta's leading practitioner in libel and defamation cases. He currently serves as a Director of AZZURRAair S.p.A. and is a former Chair of Malta Falcon Finance plc, and a former Director of AirMalta plc and the Malta Development Corporation. He is currently the chair of the Malta Lotteries and Gaming Authority. On an academic note, he is also a Member on the Board of the Faculty of Laws at the University of Malta.
