Jonathan graduated as a Legal Procurator from the University of Malta in 1996 and concurrently obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Legal and Humanistic Studies. He obtained his warrant to practice as a Legal Procurator in 1997. Whilst practising as a Legal Procurator, he pursued his studies at the University of Malta and graduated as Doctor of Laws in 2009 after submitting a thesis entitled 'Securitisation – a replacement for traditional forms of business lending' (ital). He was called to the Bar in 2010. Jonathan practices mainly in Debt Recovery, Conveyancing, General Civil and Commercial Law and General Civil and Commercial Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution.
